Suze is a Psychologist and certified yoga teacher, teaching since 2006. Throughout the years she deepened her knowledge in both fields by adding Total Yoga Nidra, Functional Range Conditioning, Family Constellations, and TRE® (Trauma Release Exercises).

Suze believes strongly that the holistic approach of combining yoga with disciplines like mindfulness, Ayurveda, and trauma- and stress release offer all the tools we need to not only find inspiration but to gain insight and find the healing that can alter the course of our lives.

Her yoga teaching style is a combination of challenging asana sequences, focus on alignment, deep embodiment, and self-healing. The challenging parts of the practice are met with humor and clear guidance that keeps you safe and grounded. Suze's yoga nidra and meditation classes offer you a relaxation that goes beyond just physical relaxation and allows healing to take place on a deeper level.

Suze’s passion for travel, a conscious lifestyle, and (self) healing inspired her to start Global Flow Retreats in 2006. Global Flow Retreats offers yoga events that combine a deep yoga practice with sustainability and self-care.

“They come to my yoga classes to learn, explore new possibilities, and be challenged, knowing that they will also get to relax deeply at the end”

What do you love about The Conscious Club? What brought you here?

I joined The Conscious Club (TCC) from the very first day and it quickly became the home-base for my classes! The philosophy behind TCC and the dedication to run a sustainable business with a broad offer of practices that help others to live a life that is also sustainable, for themselves and the planet, is perfectly in line with my own approach to life and my classes. Besides that, it is one of the most dog friendly places in Amsterdam with Milo as the club mascot and my own dog Rocky enjoying all the attention when she gets to hang out at the club while I teach :)

What do you like the most about your class? What makes your class special?

What I like most about my classes are my students! Many of my students are regulars, so i always look forward to seeing them again. They come to my yoga classes to learn, explore new possibilities, and be challenged, knowing that they will also get to relax deeply at the end. In the Yoga Nidra classes they receive deep relaxation with a class structure that is intelligent and takes them on a deep journey, but also brings them back so they can go home feeling recharged and present again.

“Through the physical practice we can allow the self-healing capacities of our bodies to work at our best”

What makes you happy as a teacher? What are you proud of?

As a teacher it makes me happy when I see people come home in their body again. This includes gaining strength, body awareness, and flexibility, but also being able to breathe freely again, soften, and deeply relax. Through the physical practice we can allow the self-healing capacities of our bodies to work at our best, which is so important when we want to live our life, with all its ups and downs, to the fullest. As a teacher it is my passion to connect people with those capacities within themselves.

What do you want to teach your students?

I want to teach my students tools for embodiment, resilience, deep relaxation, and self-healing. Not only to apply during their yoga practice on the mat, but also in their daily lives.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I believe in a holistic practice and therefore I pull from many different styles of training during my classes. They are influenced by vinyasa yoga,  (anusara) alignment, trauma release practices, bodyweight strength training, yoga nidra, and trauma sensitive yoga.

Suze Retera teaches Slow Flow, Yoga Nidra and Vinyasa at The Conscious Club. Check out our daily schedule for all our classes!
