“When I practice, I am a philosopher, when I teach, I am a scientist, when I demonstrate, I am an artist.” - B.K.S. Iyengar
Iyengar Yoga is a very powerful and active form of yoga originating from the Indian yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar (14 December 1918). Iyengar’s life work has been to systematize and revitalize the ancient art of Yoga and make it accessible to people the world over.
Iyengar yoga is a refined system of hundreds of exercises and postures through which an optimal control and development of the body can be achieved, this of course also has a profound effect on your mental state. Practically, Iyengar Yoga reveals itself as a refreshing and powerful exercise for body and mind.
By paying close attention to anatomical details and the alignment of each posture, Iyengar Yoga is the practice of precision. Poses are held for long periods and often modified with props. This method is designed to systematically cultivate strength, flexibility, stability, and awareness, and can be therapeutic for specific conditions.
Rita enrolled onto a 3-year teacher training program. After passing the Introductory exams as well as the higher Junior level she got further in deepening into the wisdom and brightness of the Iyengar Yoga system. During the past fifteen years Rita has been able to study in India with shri BKS Iyengar himself (1918-2014), his daughter Geeta and son Prashant.
