The Hip Openers ๑ Each Month a Different Yoga Discipline

Your hips are the connection point of both the spine and the legs. The ‘hip girdle’ and the 17-25 muscles that it encompasses are the central station of the body. We could refers to the hips as ‘the mother of all movement. When they’re open, you’ll be much more mobile above and below them’. So working on hip mobility improves your relationship with the rest of your body and its overall wellbeing. In yoga we are able to move our ball-and-socket hip joint through its full range of motion, and move in ways that break our usual patterns, whether those patterns are ones of underuse from a sedentary lifestyle, or overuse of particular muscles and neglect of others from a very active lifestyle.

Once a month we'll take a journey through the hip openers of a variety of yoga disciplines.

AGENDA:
๑ Vinyasa Practice with Sandra Kramerova
Date: 21st of July from 14:00-15:30
Tickets: https://bit.ly/2LYykbm

Vinyasa is a fluid style of yoga that connects movement to the breath. Allowing space for a creative sequence of asanas, proper alignment should be the solid foundation of an effective and deepening Vinyasa yoga practice.

Hips can open in many directions and with a range of different asanas. In this class we will give you solid alignment cues that give you insight in the range of mobility of the hips and how to practice deep hip-openers in a safe and constructive way. The alignment you learn will be applied in a fluid Vinyasa practice that works toward longer holds of deeper hip-openers. You will leave with a new understanding of alignment and open hips.

๑ Ashtanga Practice with Tina Rumenovic

๑ Budokon Practice with Svenja Carolin Dietrich
Date: Saturday the 8th of September from 14:00-15:30
Tickets: https://bit.ly/2up7LVv

In Budokon mixed movement arts yoga we integrate elements from martial arts, dance, animal locomotion and free form movement. Looking at hips from a more functional perspective such as from a martial artist or dancer, helps us to increase hip mobility in a sustainable way.
Especially in western countries the mobility of the hip joint is getting more and more restricted. This often leads to problems with the lower back or knees, since they try to take over the work.

๑ Yin Practice with Ike Dielesen
Date: Saturday the 6th of October from 14:00-15:30
Tickets: https://bit.ly/2AnU0N7

Hip openers might not be your favorite thing to do. It can be quite intense, and it might be even more intense in a Yin practice. Yoga is not always comfortable the moment we are in the poses. In this special hip openers yin class we explore the hips in a yin way: really slow and subtle. We focus at the pelvis area for grounding, with opening poses. We will search our edges and we might want to take it slow. We do not only play our physical edge in yoga, but certainly also our emotional and mental edge. To eventually release every tension in this area.

๑ Fascia Release & Restore Practice with Baki Babs
Date: Saturday the 3rd of November from 14:00-15:30
Tickets: https://bit.ly/2NJYkrF

Fascia is the connective tissue in the body. Trigger points are a specific spot in the muscle, often referred to as a "knot", where the muscle fibers have decreased the blood circulation, increased contraction and created a buildup of toxic waste. Fascia restrictions and trigger points can exist everywhere in the body therefore also in the hips. Our sedentary lifestyle and poor hips movement variation can cause hips fascia restriction and lead to lots of problems like lower back pain, sciatica, low immunity, bad posture, circulatory problems and digestive problems. In this class we are going to address the specific points related to the hips to help muscle mobility and reduce pain by relaxing the contracted muscles.

We are going use tennis balls as self massage tools for trigger points, stretch the hips and then give time to the tissues to restore. This can be a practical and portable practice to bring from the mat to your own home!
