Insight Yoga involves insights from mindfulness, zen and self-inquiry, applied to a gentle yoga.
Many of us come to a yoga class not only to move and stretch our bodies, but also, or even primarily, to find some peace of mind. Yoga brings you into the present moment - from the head to the heart.
Being mindful means: paying conscious attention without judgment. When we learn to be in the moment without resistance, a natural ease will unfold. Applying mindfulness in yoga strengthens its calming effect!
But is possible to go even further and discover the truth within - the unmovable peace that lies inside your heart. Insight yoga enhances this deeper seeing.
The class starts with meditation and some chi qong exercises. After, we will do simple yoga asanas as well as yin poses. Focusing on the body even in movement calms the mind. The more static yin yoga provides ample space for contemplation.
We will work with introspective questions such as ‘Where does the movement begin?’ or ‘Who or what is perceiving this now?’ This will help you to see there is no separate ‘person’ doing the yoga. Rather, life is an unfolding of experiences.
When this is seen, yoga - and all of life - becomes much more effortless and joyful.
