Kirtan: the sound of yoga

Kirtan is a very different kind of music. Based on ancient chants, it has the ability to quiet the mind if listened to with intention. Everyone experiences Kirtan differently, you can think of it as a sing-along.

A Kirtan concert is not your typical concert either. Everyone sits on the floor, and the wallah (leader) sings the mantra, and the audience sings it back. As you sing with each other you experience a deep connection with the musicians, the other audience members and yourself. And when the music stops, your mind is quiet.

Because Kirtan has roots in India, many of the songs are sung in Sanskrit. It can be so powerful singing in an ancient, holy language. You will be completely immersed in the sound, with no words to distract the mind. The magic of the chants carry you within.

Dana (on guitar) & Marieke (on harmonium) will lead this Kirtan. Both practitioners of the yogic path of devotion (Bhakti yoga). Bhakti yoga is the yoga of the heart and includes singing to an object of devotion using mantra and Kirtan to connect with the heart space.

Note: You can participate in this Special Class with your membership card, 10-ride pass, 5-ride pass or via your OneFit card (limited spots).

Sound medicine - Singing bowls & mantra

Discover the healing medicine of sound with Frank Klank and his singing bowls and Dana Devi who will sing and share the sound of sacred mantras. Singing bowls can restore vibratory frequencies of the body, mind, and soul that are out-of-harmony and diseased. The sounds they emit work as a type of energy medicine that has been known to heal pain, depression, and stress disorders. Ancient mantras are known to have a healing effect and recharge body and mind. The Sanskrit root of “mantra” is “manas” which means mind combined with “trai” which means to “set free from.” The literal definition of mantra is “set free the mind.”

During this Sound Medicine you can lay down and leave all thinking and doing of the day behind. The singing bowls and soothing melodies of sacred mantras will guide you deeper into peace and relaxation.

Note: You can participate in this Special Class with your membership card, 10-ride pass, 5-ride pass or via your OneFit card (limited spots).

Yoga & hang drum

Hang drums have been designed after years of research into the percussion instruments. There are a number of notes and tone fields around the surface giving rise to different quality sounds. The sound produced with hang drums is very warm and softer than all other percussion instruments. Due to the richness of the sound produced, it has a healing effect upon the mind and the body.

In this class, we’re combining these healing sounds with the healing power of yoga and meditation. The teachers will guide you through this class with nice sounds and a hatha-based yoga sequence followed by meditation. Their goal is to let you leave the class without any tensions or stress and with a big smile on your face!

Note: You can participate in this Special Class with your membership card, 10-ride pass, 5-ride pass or via your OneFit card (limited spots).

Sounds of india

Immerse yourself in the sound of yoga and let the magic of sacred chants carry you within. This concert will be filled with the sounds of India with Tammo Heikens on the sitar. The sitar is a plucked stringed instrument used in Hindustani classical music. The instrument became famous in the west in the 1960s through Ravi Shankar and the Beatles.

Dana Devi will share songs and sacred mantra’s in the ancient language of India: Sanskrit. She has a meditative and calming voice and plays gentle guitar along with the words of prayer in Sanskrit.

The mesmerizing sounds of the sitar and Dana’s healing voice will be a wonderful experience of music as meditation.

Sound is our connection to our deepest being. Nada Yoga means “union through sound” and is a yoga of sound. It is a path of yoga that uses music and sounds to connect to a higher state of consciousness. It is the process of union of the individual mind with cosmic consciousness through the flow of sounds.

Experience how music can be a meditation and how music can quiet the mind and lead you to that silence within.

Note: You can participate in this Special Class with your membership card, 10-ride pass, 5-ride pass or via your OneFit card (limited spots).

The Sound of silence

Relaxation, Rest, Silence

This event will be an exceptional sound experience with singing bowls and a focus on silence. Silence gives you the space to discover what’s going on in your body and mind. Through this meditation you can just be. Silence will give you the space to discover what sounds can do to your mind and body.

Frank will start with a guided meditation followed by a Silence meditation. After this meditation, it’s time to relax and drift away with the sounds of the singing bowls. While the vibrations of the bowls are still present in your body, we return to the Silence meditation.

It’s time to Just Be!
