Special Martial Arts Classes

Experience our Special Martial Arts Classes at The Conscious Club. Psychologists have found positive correlations between training in a traditional martial art and higher levels of self-esteem and positive outlook compared to any other sport.  Cutting stress and learning to handle yourself both physically and mentally are gifts of the martial arts that you can take advantage of. Whether you are new to Martial Arts or more advanced, you can explore various practices.

the zen teachings of martial arts

This meditation in movement is comparable to Chinese Tai Chi and is open to people of all ages and backgrounds.
Every class participants will learn two Poomsaes. A class will feature Poomsae Taegeuk Il Chang (number one) to make people comfortable with the style and movements. After people have learned this relatively simple form they will then progress to one of four other Poomsaes (Taegeuk O untill Pal Chang). Every class will feature a new Poomsae.

Participants can choose to do these forms barefooted as is traditional or wear shoes if they have problems with their feet. Bring some water, a towel and lots of love.
The instructor, Kevin Heller, is a 1st degree black belt in Taekwondo.

Acrobatic, expressive, interactive, dangerous, playful.
Capoeira is all of these things, and more!

Capoeira is different from any other martial art. It was created five hundred years ago by African slaves to fight the oppression, in Brazil. A fight combined with acrobatics and music, mixed with cultural expression. This form of Martial Art offers immense benefits for the body. It helps in toning and strengthening quadriceps, buttocks and hamstrings while performing the routines as a dance. Capoeira was a strictly forbidden practice back in the 18th century and could get you serious punishment. Yet it has survived, and is now being practiced all over the world.

Budokon Yoga Series

Mixed Movement Arts Yoga

As warriors we cultivate the courage to change what can be changed. As Yogis we cultivate an understanding and acceptance of what we cannot. As Humans we learn to discern the difference between the two. Learn how Budokon combines martial arts and yogic principles taught in the tradition of our Budokon system – the ‘Way of the Warrior Spirit’. Budokon Yoga style continues to be one of the most influential and important innovations in modern Yoga history. 

During this Budokon Yoga Series workshop Svenja Carolin Dietrich prepares you to unite the mind, spirit and body - the greatest of battles - in seven sections. You learn how to combine strong and circular sequence of yogic asanas, martial arts transitions and animal locomotion in the ‘Way of the Warrior Spirit’. This unique mixed movement arts yoga system helps you to increase your muscular strength, body control and stability, agility, mobility and the cultivation of pure witness state zen mind.

qi gong & yin

Yin Yoga and Qi Gong are not like other workouts. While a long swim or jog might leave you feeling drained, ancient mind-body practices like these have the power to do just the opposite. They produce more energy than they consume. When we practice Yoga or Qi Gong, we feel calm, invigorated, and clear-headed. We experience a sense of renewal on all levels.

People have been practicing these healing postures for thousands of years. But it’s only recently that scientists have begun to demonstrate how they affect our brains. What science is showing though is that they can benefit us on multiple levels: physical, mental, emotional and psycho-spiritual.

Our Qi Gong & Yin series with Mylene will help you unlock the powers of these exercises. By deepening the mind-body connection with mindful breathing, stretches, postures and meditation, these ancient practices encourage your natural healing capacities to flourish.

movement meditation

Traditionally seen, the so called Poomsea are used for Zen (Ch’an) meditation in movement. These Poomsea are stylized movements that will activate your whole body, and make your mind empty.

During this meditation, the students will follow the teacher by practicing the different styles of movements. The movement is often cross formed. This way you will experience all the corners of the cosmos and the earth. All styles have a physical focus on balance and gracious movements while the mental focus is on the breath. The transformation from one movement to the other also focuses on breathing out and breathing in.
