14x Poetry Books To Read

January has gone by before we even realized the new year started. We silently wondered, did we managed to get started on our resolution to read more books this year? Luckily the end of January also means that Poetry Week is nearly upon us - a good excuse to start reading some poetry that has always been on your To Read-list! Or for some of us bookworms, this week is just a casual reminder to take some time off for yourself and enjoy a good & inspiring read.

This Thursday, January the 30th, we’re kicking off Poetry Week with some literary reads to indulge in. Here are 14 of our favorite contemporary and classic poetry works below.

7x Contemporary Poetry to read

you are a mirror
if you continue to starve yourself of love
you’ll only meet people who’ll starve you too
if you soak yourself in love
the universe will hand you those
who’ll love you too

- a simple math
— Rupi Kaur

7x Poetry Classics to (re-)read

For sweetest things turn sourest by their deeds,
Lillies that fester smell far worse than weeds.
— William Shakespeare, The Sonnets

At The Conscious Club in Amsterdam we mostly focus on yoga and spirituality, but we also host several special classes and events where we’ll honor the art of literature. Such as our monthly Yin & Storytelling class, where we’ll take you on a journey to remember the collective connection of the soul. Listen to stories of the body and listen to facts that will talk to the mind and heart.

Another monthly event we host, Yoga ๑ Live Piano ๑ Poetry, will help you explore the world of yoga, spirituality and live music and poetry. This special class will have you feeling connected to your heart and mind whilst enjoying the musical sounds among us.
