Halloween is around the corner, but in fact, it might not be the Halloween night itself that we should be afraid of, but the night of October 28. This night at 04:38 AM Amsterdam time the new moon will be at 4° Scorpio opposite Uranus which makes the October new moon a particularly tricky one.
While we normally embrace the new moon energy for new beginnings and new opportunities, this new moon is rather unpredictable and can bring shocking and irritating sensations and experiences. During this new moon, and especially in the week of Halloween, we have to expect changes coming like lightning bolts that can affect our relationships, work lives and any other area of our lives. Consequently, this new moon is going to make us feel above all restless, impulsive, irrational and somewhat detached from ourselves and the world.
So different than usual, this new moon is not about making progressive changes and taking important decisions, but about being extra careful, patience and reflective about our feelings and thoughts.
New Moon Meaning
A new moon always represents the end of one lunar cycle and marks the beginning of new 28 days cycle. Typically, the sun conjunct moon provides us with an invigorating burst of energy, motivation and initiative.
Therefore, the new moon can be seen as time of rebirths and new beginnings. It is the perfect time to question old beliefs, behaviours and habits and to search for new ways to make progress or take the first step of a completely new journey.
New moon in Scorpio
The whole energy of the new moon in Scorpio is determined by the planetary aspect of the moon being opposite Uranus. The influence of the fixed star Uranus makes us perceive the wind of change that a new moon normally brings not as exciting or uplifting, but rather as uncertain and scary. Therefore, this new moon can cause tremendous tensions and leaves us feel above all nervous and restless. "New Moon opposite Uranus creates spontaneous, erratic, and chaotic change. This highly charged electric energy can cause anxiety, impatience, abruptness, impulsiveness, and rebelliousness." Jamie Partridge explained on the website Astrology King. The major tensions caused by this new moon reveal themselves in the clash of longing on the one hand for stable and harmonious relationships and atmospheres, while being on the other hand required to take decisions independent from others.
Mars-Saturn Transit
Unfortunately, the moon and Uranus are not the only planets making difficulties in the new moon phase. Also Mars in Libra is adding to this by creating conflict with Saturn. Following astrologer Leslie Hale at Keen.com, Mars-Saturn transits typically trigger negative feelings such as frustration and anger and particularly relationships are affected by these energies. Her advice here is to rather wait until things calmed down a bit instead of risking to ruin something by being too impulsive.
Fixed star Syrma
Even though this new moon is dominated by the star sign Scorpio, it is significantly influenced by a star of the Virgo constellation, the fixed star Syrma. The moon being conjunct to Syrma addresses our personal responsibility. More precisely, it is a reminder to seek forgiveness for our mistakes no matter how powerful we might feel in this moment.
Fixed star Sheratan
Simultaneously, Uranus is conjunct fixed star Sheratan, which reinforces the tendency of the full moon energy to act too fast impulsively. So here once again, it is important to reflect and think before you act or say something you might regret.
Mercury turn retrograde...
And as if all of these constellations are not enough, brace yourself because Mercury turns retrograde on Halloween which will last for the next three weeks…
Scorpio star sign
Similarly to the planetary aspects, the water sign Scorpio is a rather difficult one. Even more, astrologer Lisa Stardust even describes the Scorpio as “dark horse” of the zodiac based on its unpredictable deep and intense emotions that are mostly honest and valuable but also sometimes hard to deal with, especially for more rational star signs. Therefore, the new moon being in Scorpio and opposite Uranus plus Mercury retrograding through this sign make things getting intense very quickly.
Stand up for your mistakes and learn to say sorry
The unpredictability of the sensations and changes this new moon brings with it might let things seem differently from what they actually are and can easily lead to misunderstandings, wrong decisions, odd behaviours and conflicts. But be reassured, it’s not only you, it’s all of us; So don’t feel like it’s only you acting and feeling a little bit weird these days, it takes always two to tango and maybe it has been the other person who overreacted or provoked you and it is actually not your sole fault when a situation escalated.
What helps here is simply to be calm, breathe, communicate wisely and just in the spirit of the fixed star Syrma - say sorry if you feel like you might have overreacted a little bit. It’s okay!
The effects of the new moon in Scorpio last four weeks up to the next new moon on November 26. The best time for making some (well thought about!) changes and beginning new projects is during the first two weeks of this new moon cycle. This waxing phase of the Moon lasts from October 27 to the November 12 full moon.
