So, if your desires and expectations do not align, let Onyx follow your heart!

Linked to the Root Chakra, Onyx balances your body physically and spiritually. Onyx in particular has a positive effect on the nervous system, bones, teeth, and feet.

Capricorn

If you are a Capricorn, your friends and family probably come first to you for support. However nice it can be for others to have a depending person around, for you it can be tiring sometimes. Especially if the people around you voice their expectations of you. On the one hand, you may want to be dependable and do what is expected, yet, on the other hand your heart can want something entirely different. Onyx is for this reason one of the best crystals for you since it can guide you to stay true to yourself when the dependable Capricorn is taking over!

History

Onyx in Greek and Latin means “fingernail” or “claw”. The Arabic term el jaza, which refers to Onyx, means “sadness”.

From ceremonies and burials to protective amulets on armor, Onyx was used for great many purposes. For thousands of years, Onyx was a popular gem for carving and jewelry. The ancient Greeks and Romans used the black stone in intaglio and cameo to carve their heroines and gods into stamps, seals, and tiles. Onyx was also evident in spiritual manuscripts; for example, in the Bible Onyx is the first precious stone to be mentioned and is described as an element of creation.

Though some cultures associated Onyx with a positive meaning, there are cultures that attributed negative imagery and symbolism to Onyx. Perhaps due to its dark color, Onyx was misunderstood to be a stone that brought bad luck, invoked sadness and moodiness. The crystal was in fact so feared in China that only slaves and poor laborers were sent to obtain it from the mines for export.
