Full Moon in Cancer - Penumbral Lunar Eclipse & Saturn Pluto Conjunction

On Friday 10 January we’ll experience the first Full Moon of 2020 and it will be a special one. In Amsterdam we’ll have a Penumbral Eclipse in Cancer at 18:07 in 19°54’. A few hours later we’ll have the Full Wolf Moon in Cancer at 20:21 in 20°00.

The Full Wolf Moon
The Full moon in Cancer will occur after the penumbral Lunar Eclipse finishes. This Full Moon is also known as The Full Wolf Moon. Its name origins from traditional North American names which passed down trough generations. This moon is called The Full Wolf Moon, because wolves were more heard during this period. Traditionally they thought that they howled to establish their territory and breeding grounds, as this is when their breeding season begins. Though there is no evidence to support this, wolves tend to howl more often during winter time. Other traditional names for this Moon are: The Cold Moon, The Old Moon and The Great Spirit Moon.

The Penumbral Lunar Eclipse

What is a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse? A Penumbral Lunar Eclipse occurs when the Moon passes Earth’s penumbra, the faint outer shadow of the Earth. During the Penumbral Lunar Eclipse, the Moon will appear slightly darker than usual, but it will be harder to observe than a regular Lunar Eclipse. Very observant people will at most see a dark shading over the moon’s face around mid-eclipse, but it’s not likely to be noticed by people. This eclipse is visible from all of Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia and parts of North and South America and some parts of North America.

The effects of this Full Moon Lunar Eclipse
The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse will be a very intense one. In general, Lunar Eclipses can be tough as it can lead us to new roads we didn’t feel quite ready for. It shines light on the things we should be releasing from our lives and it will show the truths we didn’t see before. It will also be a time where daily struggles such as work versus home and what you need versus what you want, create inner tension and external pressures will come to your attention. Figuring out these dilemmas could cost you a lot of your energy. The emotional Cancerian energy of this Full Moon Lunar Eclipse will be strong. Which means that it will be likely to experience an emotional period, feeling extra sensitive. Since Cancer rules over the heart chakra, you can expect the boundaries around your heart cracking open during this Full Moon Lunar Eclipse which can feel beautiful and painful at the same time.

This Lunar Eclipse could feel even more intense, since it is not only directly opposed by the Sun but also by the planets: Mercury, Saturn, Pluto and Ceres.

  •  The Lunar Eclipse opposite Mercury can make it harder for you to communicate your feelings, since it causes emotional bias and polarized thinking.

  • The Lunar Eclipse opposite Saturn could make you feel sad or lonely. Social events could take the best of you since it won’t be unlikely to experience melancholy and emotional coldness during this period.

  • The Lunar Eclipse opposite Pluto could intensify your feelings to an extreme level, which might make it very hard to control your reactions and behavior. This might include feelings of hopelessness, jealousy and fear.

  • The Lunar Eclipse opposite Ceres rules food, environment and motherhood. You might experience some conflicts for this matter. You can feel in need for good food and environmental consciousness, but at the same time you will feel the pressures of the modern world. This Lunar Eclipse opposite Ceres could also cause mothers to have mixed feelings between wanting to leave home and staying home to nurture.

Overall, the Cancer Full Moon Lunar Eclipse will be a very intense one, highlighting our emotions and allowing us to get in touch with them. It will be the perfect time for some deep healing and restoring. The questions and conflicts about your inner desires will be brought to the surface and it is time to say good bye to all the things that don’t nourish your soul anymore. Allow this Lunar Eclipse be your guide towards letting go of everything that is no longer serving your highest self.

Saturn and Pluto Conjunction
Another special event happening around the date of the Full Moon is Saturn conjunct Pluto. The Saturn Pluto conjunction will occur at 23°00 on January 12, 2020. This means that at this day these two planets will be aligned. This major planetary only occurs every 34 years, on average. The last conjunction was in November 1982 and the next is in January 2020. Saturn and Pluto are one of the most serious and cold planets. So, when they align we can experience hard times.

The Saturn conjunct Pluto transit is a time of hard work and serious business. During this time, it won’t be unlikely to have some extra responsibilities with less time and resources to get the job done. This transit will force you to focus more on a particular area of life that is no longer working well for you. There are things in your life that have lost their purpose and are holding you back, even without you realizing it.

You may experience loss, hardship or disappointment as you learn what it is that you must let go of or change. It is best to accept the inevitable in this period and do what must be done. If you ignore what soon becomes obvious, or stubbornly refuse to change, you risk complications that will make your life extremely difficult. Accept the coming changes and allow yourself to be guided by what feels right.  You can experience a feeling of relief once you let go of everything that is limiting you in life!

Organs / body parts influenced by Cancer Moon Sign: Chest, breast & stomach.

These organs and body parts can be extra sensitive during this period, provide them with some extra care.
