Yoga, Sutra Philosophy & Guided Meditations ๑ Ancient Teachings Workshop

During this workshop we will give you background information about the yoga philosophy; the yoga sutra’s and the 8 limb path of Patanjali and practice guided sitting sessions according to the three noble principles, going deeper into each one of them, providing a profound foundation and framework for your meditation and your yoga practice.

The workshop is divided into 2 days. On the 30th of October, We will provide the basic information and apply these in yoga asana (poses) and meditation.

On the 14th of November, we dive deeper and give you tools to create your practice.

Background information:
Around the same time the Yoga Sutra was introduced, the Buddha was spreading his new philosophy of Buddhism, which was available to all people no matter how wealthy you were. The intent behind the Yoga Sutra was to simplify the practices to attain enlightenment so that all people, regardless of economic status, could have access to such teachings and opportunities.

At the end of the day, yoga is not just a physical practice and asana is just one of the eight limbs of yoga. The rest of yoga philosophy talks about taking control of our mind and directing it towards a higher goal and purpose. By reflecting on our attitudes towards situations, people, the external environment, and even ourselves, we can cultivate a healthier and tranquil mind, also known as ‘Cittaprasadanam’. Such a mind will allow us to perceive and react with clarity.

In the teachings of the Buddha it is said three things determine whether meditation is just a means of experiencing temporary relaxation, peace and happiness, or a powerful cause for your enlightenment and that of others. They are called; Good in the beginning. Good in the middle. Good in the end.

Its these three noble principles,- a skillful motivation, the mindset of non-grasping that sets it secure and the dedication that are called by the great 14th century Tibetan master Longchenpa; The heart, the eye and the life force of true practice. As Nyoshul Khenpo said; To reach complete enlightenment more than this is not necessary, but less is incomplete.
